Letter From the Editor

June 2024 | Annie Vong (Editor-in-Chief)

Dear Esteemed Reader,

I’m Annie Vong, and I served as Editor-in-Chief of UNLV’s Undergraduate Law Review during the 2023-2024 academic year. Having passed the torch to another dedicated student, I wanted to express an infinite amount of gratitude for everything and everyone in this club has taught me.

I first joined ULR in July 2021, after I had finished a year of online classes due to the pandemic. It seemed like every other club was struggling to stay alive, but ULR was thriving in an online format. With busy lives and work schedules, we all found time to meet each other and read each other’s drafts.

When I first joined, I wasn’t the best staff writer or researcher. Over time, the more articles I wrote, the more I read articles by stellar writers in this club, and the more advice I learned from senior members of this club, I improved so much. I learned how to transform confusing legal jargon into something that was understandable to an everyday audience, which is an invaluable skill that I now use while reporting for local newspapers.

When I was Editor-in-Chief, I made it a mission to clarify the admission process for students, to get law students to offer advice, to have LSAT resources available for free to students who needed it.

This club, to me, represents the hard work of so many students who are the first in their families to get a bachelor’s degree, let alone being the first in their families to apply for law school. I’ve never seen this level of professionalism and dedication among undergraduate students, who are jumping into the unknown by choosing this career path.

It’s hard to say goodbye, but I also can’t wait to see how each generation of leadership takes and transforms this club.
